On Tuesday, Cuba gave the last goodbye to Rosita Fornés , the great Cuban star who died on June 10 in Miami at the age of 97 and whose remains will rest on the island in compliance with the artist’s wishes.
Since the morning hours, hundreds of Cubans paraded in front of their coffin at the Martí Theater in Havana, the scene of many of their triumphs and the headquarters of their public funerals. Flowers, portraits and a Cuban flag presided over the farewell, which was attended by family, friends, artists and admirers of the Fornés, even though it was carried out with the necessary security measures for the coronavirus pandemic.
Personalities, colleagues and authorities, among them the Minister of Culture, Alpidio Alonso, were among those who paid their respects to Rosita. There were also floral offerings on behalf of the Cuban President, Miguel Díaz-Canel, and former President Raúl Castro, and honor guards next to the artist’s coffin.
