Two Special Events with Cuban Writer Anna Lidia Vega Serova

Anna Lidia Vega Serova award winning writer and artist from Havana, Cuba will be making two appearances at the University of Memphis. The first event, “Race and Gender in Cuba: A Conversation with Writer Anna Lidia Vega Serova” is sponsored by the Women’s and Gender Studies Program. This event will be held Thursday, September 19th from 3:00 to 4:00 in the University Center Conference Room 208.

The second event, “Cuba: Its arts and History. An Interview with Cuban Writer Anna Lidia Vega Serova” is sponsored by the Department of World Languages and Literatures, and will be held Friday, September 20th from 1:00-2:00 in the Michael D. Rose Theatre South Lobby. Translation for both events is provided by the Department of World Languages and Literatures.

Ms. Vega Serova, who spent her childhood living between Cuba and the former Soviet Union, is the author of numerous novels, short story collections, poetry and children’s stories. She is a member of the Union of Cuban Writers and Artists (UNEAC) and her books have received many awards and distinctions both in Cuba and around the world. Ms. Vega Serova’s visit is made possible through the support of the Department of Public and Nonprofit Administration, the Department of World Languages and Literatures, the Women’s and Gender Studies Program, and ProximityCuba.
